The presenter will discuss current data about school refusal and precipitating factors. Focus will be on mental health conditions of children and adolescents that can lead to school refusal, with a special focus on anxiety. We will also identify symptoms of anxiety that indicate a need to seek a higher level of care. We will review how to manage anxiety and other mental health conditions that lead to school refusal including therapeutic measures as well as psychiatric care, and how to support families in this process. Additionally, we will review signs of abuse or neglect that are crucial to recognize in a child or adolescent presenting with school refusal.
