Description
This course will explore the experience of college students with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Clinicians will learn about the various pressures (e.g., academic performance, social, familial), vulnerabilities (e.g., inconsistent daily routines, lack of support group, limited resources), and barriers (e.g., resources, knowledge of OCD, access to a trained provider, stigma, fear of disclosing OCD symptoms) college students with OCD may encounter. The potential impact of unrecognized and unaddressed OCD in the college population will also be discussed (e.g., worsening of symptoms, lesser academic achievement, isolation, risk of suicidality). Recommendations and treatment strategies for working with OCD and the college student will be provided.
